How to change your settings by sending email messages

While it is probably easiest to use the web-interface to make changes to your account, you may want to make changes the "classic" way by sending email messages to the listserv program. Here's how.

General instructions

Send any of the following messages to:
listserv@listserv.plattecanyon.com

Leave the subject line blank.

Put the short, one-line command as the only text of the body (main part where you write messages)

Subscribing via email

If you would like to subscribe to the list, send the following message (substituting in your first and last name for the placeholders listed here:

subscribe tbcon Joe Cool

Receiving copies of your own posted messages

Most lists, by default, do not send copies of posted messages back to the originator of the message. This means you won't see your own posting. If it is important to you to see your posts to the list as well as posts of others, you can set the 'repro' option to true. Send a message to the listserv address with the following text in the body of the mail message:

set tbcon repro

Receiving a "cheat sheet" of common commands used to communicate with Listserv - The Reference Card

This information file has a list of the most common commands used for communicating with the listserv server. Send a message to the listserv address with the following text in the body of the mail message:

info refcard

Stopping your mail temporarily (You'll remain subscribed to the list)

This is a good option if you are going to be on vacation and don't want your mailbox to become saturated.

Send a message to the listserv address with the following text in the body of the mail message:

set tbcon nomail

How to re-start your mail

Send a message to the listserv address with the following text in the body of the mail message:

set tbcon mail

How to receive daily mail as a single mail item (Digests of messages)

This option is handy if you are a member of many lists and are tired of being inundated with mail messages. You receive one mail message a day from the list that begins with a list of the topics and number of replies followed by a full listing of all the day's mail messages.

Send a message to the listserv address with the following text in the body of the message:

set tbcon digests

How to receive mail as individual mail items again

Send a message to the listserv address with the following text in the body of the message:

set tbcon mail

How to get mail archives

Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. These are most easily viewed and searched at
http://listserv.plattecanyon.com/archives/tbcon.html

You can also get them via email (but this frankly quite combersome as compared to just using the web). Send a message to the listserv address with the following text in the body of the message:

index tbcon

Once you receive the list of existing filenames, you can use the GET command to have the file sent to you. The Database command used on many listserv machines is not fully implemented on ours yet, so it is of no use.
